The Art of Observing Energy

Friday, May 6th, 2011

There’s an art, really, to sitting back and observing. It can be hard to do, especially when it comes to meditation and noticing one’s energy.

It’s really all about “Beingness” vs “Doingness.”  And anyone who has done any kind of meditation work has probably experienced that energetic place between these two ways of operating. When we interact or engage with our energy from the place of just being with…it truly changes the whole ball game!

When we can just sit back and observe our energy, and not try to fix or direct something in the process, we move into a state of trust and surrender that allows our own energetic intelligence to guide us. That’s that part of us that knows how to work with our own energy. It is vastly more intelligent than our working mind!

I focus on this quite a bit with clients because so often our minds get in the way of what is really there.  And, even more often when we are too focused on defining, categorizing or explaining our energetic experience, we hold onto that energy, when really it just wants to let go. That’s one of the great gifts of working with our energetic intelligence…it’s knows when we are ready to let go of something long before our minds figure it out.

The need to understand of course is great. We all want to know the who, what, why and when of our pains and frustrations in our healing. But what I have found over the years is that when I simply observe — and by this I mean experience the energy I’m aware of as fully as possible without judgement — what I really need to understand becomes apparent. And what I don’t…simply drops away. More often than not, when I connect to and observe the energy, allowing it to show me what’s there, it begins to unwind simply from the act of being observed.

The art of this is letting what is ready to let go, let go!

That can be a difficult thing, or it can be as easy as can be. When we’re ready, we really do just let things go.

The more we can practice this as we sit and observe our energy, the easier it gets. We learn the art of observing and allowing things to release without having to latch-on to meaning. All the while knowing that any meaning that is necessary for our spiritual evolution will indeed become known to us.

It’s all about the Beingness. To help you practice, here’s an energy meditation to guide you into that magical place.

Trust and Knowingness

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

Here’s a thought (one of many) which I took away from Dr. Michael Beckwith’s talk at a conference I was at recently. He said, “Belief is a placeholder for what you know.” This of course made sense to me. But it’s been lurking in my mind these past few days.

Here’s my thought process. We have a belief, which we practice. We may even have an affirmation to affirm that belief over and over. We practice it enough and we get an “a-ha” moment—insight. Then, we have knowingness.

What has held me in this inner discussion is trust. In order for us to know something, we must first trust it to be so. I can certainly have a belief without fully trusting it…hmmm maybe. Maybe I’m kidding myself there. But somewhere in between practice and insight comes trust.

Tips to Working with Resistance: Creating Change Even When Your Unconscious Mind Isn’t So Sure!

Monday, June 8th, 2009

We all face change day in and day out. Sometimes the change is small and we glide right on through it, and other times…well not so much! But even when change is good and we are seemingly on board, resistance can rear its ugly little head; and then we are often in for a bumpy ride.

Working with people, like I do, who are focused on change, I see resistance pop up in many forms. Sometimes it can be plain as day and other times it is so well disguised that it can trick you into believing its really got your back.  Sometimes it can be evident in what people say, and other times it is held in the body’s energy—as if a wall has been put up that nobody will ever cross.

But what is this thing we call resistance?

I think of resistance as an internal emotional and energetic process, which acts as a holding pattern. Its roots however, are from patterns and processes we learned which initially served us. Our unconscious mind is great at creating those patterns as a way to “survive” our experiences, and then equally great at holding onto them for dear life when it’s time to change. It can feel overwhelming at times. Our emotional resistance can hold us back if we don’t learn to recognize it and work with it successfully.

How do we do that?  Here are the tips I share with my clients for working with, and moving through, resistance.
