I will admit, I’m one of those people who gets into a doing, doing, doing mode that winds up my energy at times. I find myself running on my inner hamster wheel, furiously going nowhere.
It’s a frustrating place to be, feeling like all that I’m doing is producing no real results. And that frustration energy adds to the pot, where eventually my overall experience feels like everything has simply stopped working.
Anyone else out there an over- doer?!
That energetic experience is a loud one. And once it moves into how we are operating in our lives, it can be the vibration that takes over our entire world for a while. It’s a cycle that feeds on itself and creates reaction over intention, fear over trust and of course doing over being.
Don’t get me wrong, sometimes doing — taking action — is exactly what is needed. We’d get nowhere if we didn’t!
But that overly-focused, go no-where energy doesn’t work; especially now that we’ve stepped across the threshold into a new energetic stage in our evolution. The old masculine energies of “doing” must be tempered with more feminine energies of “being” in order for things to manifest.
And when I get myself into that state of mind, where everything feels locked into place, I remind myself that there is a new game in town called receptivity! And that requires us to stop doing long enough to receive.
This over-doing syndrome is tied to all things feminine, or a temporary imbalance of this energy. The antidote is to switch gears and do something that may be hard for us “doers”: stop doing and look to where we may need to take care of ourselves.
I was reminded again just yesterday that self-care is how we move into abundance, into movement and manifestation. And for us doers that may seems like a stretch, after all how can shifting gears away from what I’m doing, what I’m needing and what I’m trying to create help?
But it’s true.
- When we actively step into self-care more, we recognize that we are important. We shift into a vibration of self love and value, and therefor attract this energy. We attract it as people seeing this in us (mirroring our energy)…and we attract it as things, projects and ideas that reflect what we hold as valuable and important to us.
- Switching into self-care mode when we are over-doing, over-thinking and getting nowhere get’s us off that hamster wheel. It changes our perspective and our energy as it creates room for something to come in. Just think about the energy of those word I wrote above: doing, needing, trying...they feel pretty energetically tight no?!
- Shifting our attention off something “out there” and back into ourselves absolutely provides the quiet time needed to see just how stuck in our own energy we may be. Sitting quietly can show us where our resistance is to slowing down and taking care of our own needs (am I important enough?). And it provides the inner perspective needed to release the energy that is wound up and out of sync with our flow.
So if you find yourself frantically doing things, re-doing the same thing, and/or filling up your day with things that yield no real results…stop. It may be scary to do so, to let go of trying to control your experience.
I so get that! But we over-doers have the capacity to receive as fully as the energy we expend in our doing-ness.
We just need to create that space.
Go for a walk, listen to a meditation, create space for your own energetic awareness and let yourself shift into receiving mode. What you find there may surprise you. More ease will come I am sure. And in that space you will get the clarity to know what action is truly needed to move you forward.
