Trust and Knowingness

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

Here’s a thought (one of many) which I took away from Dr. Michael Beckwith’s talk at a conference I was at recently. He said, “Belief is a placeholder for what you know.” This of course made sense to me. But it’s been lurking in my mind these past few days.

Here’s my thought process. We have a belief, which we practice. We may even have an affirmation to affirm that belief over and over. We practice it enough and we get an “a-ha” moment—insight. Then, we have knowingness.

What has held me in this inner discussion is trust. In order for us to know something, we must first trust it to be so. I can certainly have a belief without fully trusting it…hmmm maybe. Maybe I’m kidding myself there. But somewhere in between practice and insight comes trust.

The Key to Shifting Your Energy: Get Out and Try It On!

Monday, June 15th, 2009

I think a lot about how we shift energy; how we move from one energetic stance to another. I teach people how to use visualization and energy tools as a way to work with energy as they move through change. The other day, however, when I was talking with a client, and giving her a homework assignment, I said, “Now you need to go out into the world and move into action, in order for your energy really to shift.”

This brought on a reaction of surprise from this client. She was very comfortable with the idea of working with her energy through the tools I’ve shown her. But, she was looking at her situation as if she could “fix” her energy and then go out on the world in a new way. I think we’ve all felt this desire at times; to just get it together and then things will all line up as we move into the world…all anew. But alas, that’s not the plan of the Universe! As a friend said to me just this morning, “This is a participatory event!”

Just what is it about shifting our energy that at times requires our deep inner attention and, other times, our being in action?

Well, working with our energy is a dance. And just like with anything, we must create harmony between the yin and the yang; the feeling and the thought; and the listening and the doing.

It can be a true balancing act between these ways of being. It’s easy to pull inward and go into deep reflection and see energetically where we are stuck or where we hold old belief patterns. We can run our energy, clear our energy…do all kinds of things, but if we stay there too long, we see no movement in our lives. We have no way to then have our energy (our information) mirrored back to us. And, our points of reference can never be updated without that. It is this updating of information (or energy) that is the shift we are looking for.

So how do we do this?

Here are a few key pointers I like to pass on.

Tips to Working with Resistance: Creating Change Even When Your Unconscious Mind Isn’t So Sure!

Monday, June 8th, 2009

We all face change day in and day out. Sometimes the change is small and we glide right on through it, and other times…well not so much! But even when change is good and we are seemingly on board, resistance can rear its ugly little head; and then we are often in for a bumpy ride.

Working with people, like I do, who are focused on change, I see resistance pop up in many forms. Sometimes it can be plain as day and other times it is so well disguised that it can trick you into believing its really got your back.  Sometimes it can be evident in what people say, and other times it is held in the body’s energy—as if a wall has been put up that nobody will ever cross.

But what is this thing we call resistance?

I think of resistance as an internal emotional and energetic process, which acts as a holding pattern. Its roots however, are from patterns and processes we learned which initially served us. Our unconscious mind is great at creating those patterns as a way to “survive” our experiences, and then equally great at holding onto them for dear life when it’s time to change. It can feel overwhelming at times. Our emotional resistance can hold us back if we don’t learn to recognize it and work with it successfully.

How do we do that?  Here are the tips I share with my clients for working with, and moving through, resistance.
