How Will You Change Today?

I saw this video quite a while ago of Marianne Williamson talking about how change can come from a small group of people…ENOUGH people. It’s entitled,“Are You Part of the 11%?” Here, she is saying 11% of the population can make great change. Now I’m not sure if that’s an exact figure, but I get the idea.

It’s hard not to notice that we are going through a shift. And whether you look at it as a shift in consciousness, social change or even economic transformation—or all of the above—all of us, including the planet herself, are going through something phenomenal. And what happens globally affects us personally…and vice versa.

In fact, the change really does begin with us. We may not have been noticing, but this global shift has been coming on for many years, and is a result of our personal change. Perhaps we have come close to that quorum to allow greater change. But, when I watched this video again the other day, I started to think about what is it within us—as individuals—which flips the coin or makes that shift that we need to move along our individual paths to personal evolution? I played with the question for a moment of,“Does it take 11% of ME to create my personal change in order for me to make my next big step in consciousness?”

In a way, this idea has some relevance. Change can be hard. Resistance rears its ugly head at times and we can really get stuck in the change we want to make—or are thrown into by the powers that be. I see this every day in my office as I work with people to clear away those blocks toward change and growth.

But at what point do we finally let go? It’s not when we get so exhausted from the fight that we give up. I see the part of us that is inspired to grow and change for the better, whether we are conscious of this part or not, driving us to this point. So at what point does change happen?

It’s that shift into ENOUGH…enough of us, enough of our energy, enough of our conscious awareness. There is a tipping point and it often can be a mysterious place; and it can also surprise us when we get there. Many times we miss it! We just begin to recognize that things are different. So how do we get there?

Here are my 3 tips to flip the coin toward the change you want:

1. Spend time with yourself. Even if it is 10 minutes a day, spend time in quiet meditation so you can begin to hear what is going on in your head. Your thoughts will show you what you are broadcasting from your unconscious mind. This is the place where you don’t have to “do” or “fix,” but just listen and become aware. We often become so accustomed to the talk inside our heads, we don’t even pay attention. But believe me it’s driving you to do whatever you do…good or bad. We have to look at our subconscious mind to know how we are showing up in life. (Be sure to read my blogs on Staying in Present Time for Healing and How to Loosen the Mind’s Grip and Surrender for some tips on using meditation and visualization in this way.)

2. Begin to recognize the negative talk and work with it. This negative talk is a learned response, and it can be unlearned. You don’t need to beat yourself up for this, use it as a tool. Know though, that this is where you are spending your time, and find ways to shift those thoughts and heal.

Because of the work that I do, I’m a big proponent of looking at this from an energy perspective (clearing the energy of the conscious thought). And there are a lot of ways to do this: Energy work, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), journaling…the list goes on. But find ways to become more and more conscious of your negative thoughts and what is behind them. And when you do, then let them go. Let them release. I believe the key is to sit with them, observe them, challenge them, and let them go. The more you can feel that letting go, the easier it will be each time they come back into your awareness. And then one day you will mysteriously notice they will not….

I had a client ask me the other day about sitting in those thoughts and feelings and allowing that. Her fear was that she would then be giving them more power. My response was that we need to let them have their voice. Your anger, your fear etc., are a result of something. Let your feelings and thoughts be expressed safely, so they can then let go. The more we shut them away, the more they will cry out for attention. The trick is to know that you don’t have to create a special shrine in your house for them. Let them state their piece, and then ask them to leave!

3. Get support. Energy is a funny thing (and thoughts and information are energy). When we are in our “stuff” it’s hard to see what’s going on. Getting support from someone who can hold a different viewpoint and energy vibration, than that which you are stuck in, can help you by holding the energy that you are moving into. Think of that person as a welcoming committee for you! Sometimes we need help to see the stuck pattern, and sometimes we need someone on the other side of the fence to hold the gate open for us and show us how to step through to the other side.

So, it may not be a measurable process for our unconscious mind to shift on any given subject, but I do see this personal shift in healing happening faster and faster for people. Perhaps that is due to the greater shift in consciousness that we, as humanity, are going through. Enough have step through the gate to help show the way for others to find healing more easily. And as we do, that collective shift is opening the gateway to an inspiring global change toward a more conscious planet. As I said it’s an inspiring time be here and be a part of the change….but change we must, to be included.
